Please Help!

It's that time! Please help us pick the cover for the next book. It's our first illustrated children's book, coming in January. Please vote which you like best for I AM AMELIA EARHART. A or B? (And yes, I always lose the vote).

A - there is a clear excitement from that cover.

I don't know. B seems to be having the time of her life.

Anonymous said...

A - depicts childhood dreams of flight!

Depends is the book about her wanting to learn to fly and then accomplishing that, or is the book about her career flying. A is better for the former, B is better for the latter.

I like "A" . Although I love them both, I like the fact that she is wearing her trademark scarf, and there is a red plane in the background. AE is usally associated with her red Lockheed Vega monoplane.. She did fly a yellow, "The Canary", biplane in her early days. Interestingly though AE pretty well always worn slacks as she didn't like her legs! Although AE looks likely she is having a great time in "B" it just doesn't have the same effect as A. My 2 cents forth..

I like (A) for Christopher Eliopoulos's Avengers art.

I like A better but love that she is sitting in a plane in B. I don't prefer B because she doesn't look like a girl and her laugh is maniacal (as someone said previously). I am sure the book will be a success no matter which cover you choose because you are awesome!

I like A much better because B reminds me of the muppets. The open mouth has the same sharpness as the muppets.

I am just looking forward to buying it for my grandkids as they will get a kick out of the fact that "Granny" reads books by the same children's author. :)

I showed this to my boys (6 and 5), and they say B. They said that A is about a girl and B is about a pilot. I think Amelia is more pilot than girl. And as a grownup girl, I think books about strong girls are good for boys and girls

B

She was a pilot, you know.

I pick "A". Looks like she is on the way to making her dream come true........so cute with her arms spread out, ready to fly! Reminds me of a quote I had on a bumper sticker once: "If you were unfortunate enough to be born without wings, do nothing to prevent them from growing".

Both are great but ... I'm voting B. I'm more attracted to A for the artistic image but I don't think a child would see the girl depicted in A as Amelia, a pilot!

I like A. The other one looks more like Charlie Brown.

A is better because Amelia looks female. Amelia in B looks male, and we wouldn't want that because girls wouldn't relate.

B, even though you can tell its a girl in A. If a little one can't read yet they may think it's a book for boys. Sorry:)

This is Amelia ... it should be "B"

Anonymous said...

Both are winners....but A you can see it is a girl wearing a skirt (I have a five yr old daughter and I cannot get her to wear anything but dresses..lol) I like B personally but A will be the winner and rightfully so!!!

I liked B better. But neither illustration really looks more "girl"like than the other. MIght be confusing-don;t know how aware little people are these days.

"A" because she looks like a little girl who has always dreamed of flying. In "B" she looks like the 5th grade teacher who terrorized our elementary school -- a crazy, Hitler-esque despot. Not good. P.S. I love all your work!

B, definitely B.

A -- I think this is more likely to appeal to a young girl. A young AE running with her arms outstretched and a red scarf and a red plane.... I would've preferred it if she'd worn pants instead of a skirt :-)
B makes her look like Calvin (of Calvin & Hobbes), not AE.

Jill Martinez said...

B

A - This will definitely be more appealing to a child. B has a "Red Baron"esque flavor that is a little scary.

Her smile is way better, it draws you in much more. I love the plane in the background, her trademark outfit, and your name is also more clear on cover A.
Good luck with the new ventures, Brad!

Anonymous said...

A

Unknown said...

At first I thought B, but then felt A shows her being more female with a skirt on. I want it to be appealing to girls because my daughter chose Amelia Earhart for her historical figure when she was five years old -- based on wanting a female who was not dead (was questionable if and when she actually died).

B has more personality. Good luck!

Anonymous said...

Actually, I'm not fond of either. They're a little "cartoony" for my tasts. However, if I must chose, I prefer A since it shows her as female which is significant.

Jeff said...

I don't like either one all that much, but A is better than B. A looks like a kid having fun, which would be appropriate for a children's book, while B just looks rather silly. Cartoonish is the word I saw someone else use to describe it.
