Have to say, I've always been fascinated with this -- just jumping from the plane with the load of cash. How could I not be obsessed?
Plane hijacker D.B. Cooper's parachute foundvia Boing Boing by Mark Frauenfelder on 3/26/08
36 years after he jumped from a hijacked plane with a bag containing $200,000 in ransom, D.B. Cooper's whereabouts remain unknown. But his parachute was discovered yesterday.
If it is Cooper's parachute, that will solve one mystery -- where he apparently landed -- but it will raise another, Carr said.
In 1980, a family on a picnic found $5,880 of Cooper's money in a bag on a Columbia River beach, near Vancouver. Some investigators believed it might have been washed down to the beach by the Washougal River. But if Cooper landed near Amboy and stashed the money bag there, there's no way it could have naturally reached the Washougal.
"If this is D.B. Cooper's parachute, the money could not have arrived at its discovery location by natural means," Carr said. "That whole theory is out the window."

I would love to see this somehow appear in one of your books.
Well, according to valid sources (well, a blurb on Yahoo News), it looks like the parachute isn't Cooper's).
Anyone else think the sketch they used makes Cooper look a little like Ben from Lost?
It was confirmed NOT to be DB's parachute....experts believe he could not of survived the low altitude jump....probably why some of the money was found....he apparently died from the jump and the money is at the bottom of a lake.
Why do the experts say he couldnt possibly survived the jump? I saw on the news that the plane was at 10,000 feet. The old static type jumps were done in less than 3,000 feet. ? They said today that an ex airforce parachute type guy from Oregon admitted to his sons and a lawyer that he was the infamous D.B.Cooper. Check out Global news/vancouver site for the story. Why is jumping out at 10,000 feet not possible? The news told of a story about him, that it was 10,000. The old stype "static" jump with a cable was done in less than 3,000 feet so whats impossible? Dont most sport skydivers jump still at 10,000feet? dbcooperjr
I have for a long time now been obsessed with the D.B cooper case, It started when I was 17 and my family went on a sky diving trip, when I turned 18 I started doing more research and jumps over where D.B supposibly landed... I have probably read every possible story on D.B cooper as I could and started to get a clear picture in my mind, its obvious, D.B either survived or Died. In my own opinion based on the reasearch I have done, D.B lived. This year I have started making possible maps of where the money could be, if D.B landed, I think he hid the money and returned to get it after the search was over. D.B Cooper may not be a paratrooper or experienced Parachuter but in my mind, this man is a legend worth looking into.
Jumping from a jet airliner isn't as hard as it sounds. I and many other skydivers have jumped from a DC 9 passenger jet at the 2006 World Free Fall Convention held at the old Chanute AFB in Rantoul Illinois. We exited from the rear ventral door at 14,000 feet. The high exit speed (I am guessing 140 mph) caused some jumpers to tumble for a few seconds before they got stable, but it wasn't a big deal.
DB Cooper doesnt exist and no one jumped from that plane. It was either one of two things:
1. Asking for parachutes was just a smoke screen and he got off with other passengers using a disguise.
He could have bought two plane tickets. No one probably ever verified passengers were in every paid seat. So naturally when the plane finally landed it would appear 1 passenger was missing.
2. The DB Cooper incident was manufactored by the govt because they had something top secret going on as part of the flight.
They may have intentionally drawn as much attention as possible to the flight to make potential enemy threat to whatever was transported. Seem that no way would it be on this plane getting far too much attention.
